 These interviews coincided with the 5th annual scientific meeting of the
Faculty of Pain Medicine entitled Chronic Pain - A Disease in it's own right
and a major healthcare problem.

“The Neurological Alliance of Ireland launched their neurorehabilitation manifesto in the Mansion House Dublin today, calling for the implementation of the national rehabilitation strategy.

The manifesto also highlighted the need to protect not for profit organisations from ongoing cuts, given that these are often the only source of services for people with neurological conditions and their families. NAI also published the findings of their nationwide survey on access to neurorehabilitation, showing that a high percentage of respondents could not access vital supports such as counselling, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.

2013 promises to be an eventful year for neurological conditions in Ireland. In May, Ireland will host European Brain Month in association with the EU commission and the European Brain Council. As Ireland holds the EU presidency during this period, this is an important opportunity to highlight issues affecting the over 700,000 people who live with a neurological condition.

The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) is the umbrella body for over thirty not for profit organisations working with people with neurological conditions and their families. NAI will be using Brain Month to highlight Ireland’s track record when it comes to meeting the needs of the over 700,000 people in this country who live with a neurological condition. 

The National Disability Authority is delighted to announce the publication of the report on Your Voice Your Choice 2012. This Report captures the views and experiences of about 250 people with disabilities and carers who participated in the Your Voice Your Choice consultation event in June 2012.

It reflects what people with disabilities said is important to them when it comes to key issues like:

      Being treated equally

      What it means to reach one’s potential

      Being able to participate in the community

      Living independently
