The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) and Care Alliance are carrying out a survey of carers of people with neurological conditions.The results will be published during Carers Week this June. 


The NAI is an umbrella group of over 30 neurological charities and Care Alliance is the national umbrella for organisations representing family carers.

Avail of a Free Online Headache Management Programme by completing a simple survey on the severity, frequency and impact of your headache pain. The survey takes 10 minutes to complete. Upon completion of the survey you will be directed to an online mindfulness-based pain management programme tailored by clinical psychologist Dr. Jonathan Egan for individuals with chronic headache including: migraine, tension-type headache and medication overuse headache.

Study on psychological factors influencing how people adjust to life with fibromyalgia (with particular focus on emotions and expression) is being conducted by PhD candidate in NUI Galway's Centre for Pain Research.  This online survey takes 15 mins to complete.  All responses are anonymous.

Gene Find could lead to drug for chronic pain


 


A gene responsible for chronic pain has been identified, with scientists saying this could lead to drugs for treating long-lasting back pain.


Writing in the journal Science, University of Cambridge researchers removed the HCN2 gene from pain-sensitive nerves in mice.


Deleting the gene stopped any chronic pain but did not affect acute pain.


About one in seven people in the UK suffer from chronic pain, which can also include arthritis and headaches.
